Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DNA sampling for identification of deceased underway
Digital Desk: DNA sampling is being done to identify the individuals who died on the Air India 171 flight.
The identification of victims from the tragic Ahmedabad Plane Crash is currently taking place at the DNA Lab of the Directorate of Forensic Science in Gujarat, mostly through DNA testing.
Authorities have identified more than 40 victims through DNA testing four days after an Air India jet headed for London crashed in Ahmedabad.
Authorities are using DNA testing to determine the identities of the victims of the terrible tragedy because many of the bodies were burned beyond recognition or otherwise damaged.
12 staff members were among the 241 passengers on board Air India flight 171, a Boeing 787-8, that perished in the tragic Ahmedabad crash.
The London-bound AI-171 aircraft crashed soon after it took off from Ahmedabad International Airport.
According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the precise death toll won't be made public until DNA testing is completed.
On June 12, the flight, which was traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, had 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
Shortly after takeoff, the passenger plane crashed into a resident doctors' dorm building close to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
