Air India Crash Update: DNA test run Down—210 Victims Identified, 187 Bodies Reunited With Families
Digital Desk: Gujarat's Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education, Rushikesh Patel, announced after a week of the horrific Air India tragedy in Ahmedabad, where 210 casualties had been successfully reunited with their families using DNA tests. As of Thursday morning, 187 mortals have been released to the next of kin.
Minister Patel issued the following update on their social media platform X: "UPDATED UP TO: 19/06/2025, 8:30 am. NO. OF DNA MATCHES – 210, NO. OF RELATIVES CONTACTED – 210, NO. OF MORTAL RELEASED – 187, Remaining mortal remains will be handed over soon."
Meanwhile, the Aviation Ministry proposed tougher regulations to avoid air disasters caused by obstructions. The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a draft regulation aiming to reduce the hazards that aircraft face from obstructions in flight paths. Released on June 18, the draft, titled "Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025," will go into effect after being published in the Official Gazette.
Authorities are continuing efforts to identify the remaining bodies, with forensic teams working around the clock.
The confirmation brings a sense of closure to many families who had been anxiously awaiting news since the devastating crash.
