Amritpal Singh associates remanded in police custody for attack on Ajnala police station

Digital Desk: On Friday, March 21, a Punjab court sentenced seven associates of convicted pro-Khalistani politician Amritpal Singh to four days in police custody in connection with the 2023 attack on Ajnala police station.

The judge approved the remand to allow for further interrogation and evidence recovery.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Inderjeet Singh acknowledged that the Punjab Police had requested a seven-day remand, but the judge only allowed four. "We have gotten a four-day remand for seven suspects. "They will be presented in court again on March 25," Singh stated.

The accused persons, who had previously been imprisoned in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), were detained again after their release.

Authorities claim that they stormed the Ajnala police station with weapons. Singh stressed the necessity of recovering evidence, such as automobiles and mobile phones, that the accused may have attempted to destroy.

Advocate Ritu Raj Sandhu, who represents one of the accused, indicated that the police are particularly looking for mobile phones and weapons. Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh Bajekhana, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Sarabjit Kalsi, Ranjeet Kalsi, Gurinder Pal Singh Gurri Aujla, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha, and Kulwant Singh have all been detained and charged.

On Thursday, seven of Amritpal Singh's acquaintances flew from Dibrugarh to Punjab. The transfer took place in stages, with three people flown out first, followed by the remaining four.

According to government authorities, the exact number of people transferred remains unknown.

The seven persons were re-arrested soon after their NSA detention time expired. A 25-member Punjab Police team, led by Superintendent of Police Harinder Singh Gill, had been in Dibrugarh for several days to oversee the transfer.

Officials verified that Kulwant Singh, Harjeet Singh, and Gurinder Pal Singh were released on Wednesday, only to be arrested again in connection with the attack on the Ajnala police station.
