Assam: International Help Lands; ONGC Struggles to Control Gas Leak Disaster
Digital Desk: On Thursday, the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation announced a team of experts from the United States will assist the company in constraining gas leakage from a crude oil well in Assam's Sivasagar district, where a blowout erupted eight days earlier.
Authorities have evacuated nearby areas as a precaution, and no casualties have been reported so far. Foreign experts are scheduled to arrive at the site on Friday evening.
The ONGC issued a statement, stating "An international team of well control experts has been mobilized from the United States of America and is expected to reach the site by the evening of June 20 to assist.''
"Multiple junk shot operations using different combinations of materials and pressure ranges have been undertaken."
The situation remains under watch as ONGC with global support continues to make concerted attempts to reduce the well's unabated gas discharge.
