Gaurav Gogoi appointed new Assam Congress President
Digital Desk: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has been appointed as the new President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). This was announced on Monday. Gaurav Gogoi will succeed Bhupen Borah.
Furthermore, three Congress members, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Pradip Sarkar and Roselina Tirkey have been named as working presidents.
Given that Gaurav Gogoi, the son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, is seen as a vibrant and trustworthy representative of the party in the area, this reshuffle is a calculated balancing act between experience and youth. The timing of his appointment is crucial as the Congress looks to regain lost ground in Assam and challenge the BJP's hegemony in the region.
It is anticipated that the appointments, which go into effect immediately, will modernize the party's organizational framework and give its outreach and campaign preparation initiatives new life.
These changes reflect the Congress's intention to put up a unified and revitalized front in the politically significant northeastern state ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
