Hindu Monk Chinmoy Krishna Das granted bail by Bangladesh HC
Digital Desk: The Bangladesh High Court granted former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das bail on Wednesday, following his detention last year, which provoked outrage and strained relations between India and Bangladesh.
Das was detained in Bangladesh on November 25, 2024, on strong charges of sedition, which the international community calls "judicial harassment."
Chinmoy Das' lawyer, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee, said that the Hindu monk was feeling sick and suffering while imprisoned without trial.
On Wednesday, a two-judge court granted him bail following a hearing. He is expected to be released from jail following the HC judgment unless the Supreme Court's Appellate Division stays the HC verdict, according to Advocate Prolad Deb Nath, a lawyer representing Chinmoy, who spoke with The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi media site.
