Maha Shivratri marked the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025; devotees flocks to Sangam for final ‘snan’

Digital Desk: The final day of the big Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 dawned on Wednesday, February 26, with devotees coming to the Triveni Sangam in the early hours for a holy plunge, the final special 'snan' on the festival of Maha Shivratri.

With this, the six-week-long Mela, the world's largest spiritual gathering hosted in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, comes to an end.

Maha Shivratri is an important Hindu festival that commemorates the celestial union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is also significant in the Maha Kumbh setting because it represents the appearance of Amrit Kumbh, the pitcher of nectar, in Hindu mythology.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, had six unique days, including three 'Amrit Snan' days: Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima, and Mahashivratri.

In the early hours of Wednesday, devotees were spotted racing to the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, for the Maha Kumbh Mela's final'snan' on the celebration of Maha Shivratri.

The Uttar Pradesh government also issued comprehensive advise to devotees, recommending them to take dips at the ghats nearest to them.

According to the offer guidance people traveling from Uttar Jhunsi should take Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat, while those traveling from Dakshini Jhunsi should take Arail Ghat.

Devotees approaching the Mela from Pande are advised to take a'snan' at Bharadwaj Ghat, Nagavasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed greetings to the people of the state and those from around the world for the 'Amrit snan' during the Maha Kumbh. He stated that Maha Shivratri urges people to be dedicated to the betterment of society.
