Meghalaya: Police arrest NEHUSU President Sandy Sohtun for alleged assault on NEHU faculty
Digital Desk: The president of the NEHU students’ union, Sandy Sohtun, has been arrested by the Meghalaya police in Shillong for allegedly assaulting a faculty member of the North Eastern Hill University.
Dr. Alok Singh, a professor in NEHU's Hindi department, filed the complaint that resulted in the arrest.
Dr. Singh alleged that a group of youths, led by NEHU students’ union president Sandy Sohtun, forcibly entered his office on the evening of April 24 and physically attacked him.
The complaint was formally filed on April 25.
According to Dr. Singh, the group not only assaulted him but also allegedly used a stick to threaten him, placing it around his neck during the altercation.
He stated that the group accused him of engaging in political activities.
Meghalaya police have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
