Mirabai Chanu elected as chairperson of IWF’S athletes commission

Digital Desk: Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu has been elected as the chairperson of the Indian Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) athletes commission.

Chanu described her appointment as an opportunity to “uphold one of fellow weightlifters”.

She pledged to take the responsibilities that come with the role seriously.

Chanu vowed to work toward spreading the athletes’ voice and viewpoints across all key channels to ensure continued focus on the sport without being distracted by external factors.

Joining her in leadership is S. Sathish Kumar, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, who has been appointed vice-chairperson.

Their term will last for four years, serving as a bridge between the athletes and the governing body.
