PM Modi to attend International Women’s Day event in Gujarat, security to be handled by women police

Digital Desk: In a groundbreaking move, an all-women police contingent will be responsible for the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Gujarat's Navsari district on International Women's Day, March 8. For the first time in India's history, the Prime Minister's complete security setup, from his arrival at the helicopter to the event location, would be managed by female police officers.

Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced this historic move, highlighting the significance of women in law enforcement. This development comes as the Prime Minister prepares to visit Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, where he will participate in the 'Lakhpati Didi' event on International Women's Day.

“For the first time in the history of India, only women police will handle the entire security arrangement of the PM's event—right from his arrival at the helipad at Vansi Borsi village in Navsari till the event venue," Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of State for Home, stated on Thursday.

According to the minister, Nipuna Torawane, a senior female IPS officer and Home Secretary, will oversee the security measures.

He noted that this initiative would send a powerful message to the world on Women's Day and highlight the crucial role that women play in ensuring Gujarat is a safe and secure state.
