Sad! 128-Year-Old Padma Shri Awardee, Baba Shivanand passes away

Digital Desk: Baba Shivanand, a well-known spiritual guru and yoga practitioner who received the Padma Shri award, died of health issues in Varanasi at the age of 128. PM Narendra Modi, expressed his sorrow over the Baba's passing.

"It is extremely saddening to hear about the demise of Shivanand Baba Ji, a yoga practitioner and resident of Kashi. His life dedicated to yoga and sadhana will continue to inspire every generation of the country," PM Modi stated on social networking platform X.

After suffering from health problems, Baba Shivanand was brought to BHU Hospital on April 30. He died on Saturday night.

Baba Sivanand, who lived in Kashi (Varanasi), was well-known for leading a solitary life that revolved around yoga, meditation, and spiritual pursuits. After receiving the Padma Shri in 2022 for his outstanding contribution to society via yoga, he gained national prominence for his commitment to holistic wellness and ancient Indian values.

Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh CM, also paid his respects.

Baba Shivanand was born on August 8, 1896 in the Sylhet area of modern-day Bangladesh. When he was six years old and his parents died of starvation, he was taken in by Omkarnand, who became his spiritual guru and guided him through yogic and ascetic disciplines.

His very long and disciplined life, characterized by simplicity and commitment, made him a revered figure. According to disciples, his remains has been preserved at his home in Kabirnagar Colony so that the people can pay their last respects. His last rites will be held later this evening.
