First Diamond League win for Neeraj Chopra, throws 88.16 meters to top Paris

Digital Desk: Big day for ace India's Olympic javelin star Neeraj Chopra, proudly returned to the top of the Diamond League circuit at the Paris leg of the esteemed athletics series, winning his first championship in two years.

With an impressive first-round throw of 88.16 meters, the 27-year-old outperformed a strong field that included his German opponent Julian Weber.

Chopra's opening throw was sufficient to keep him ahead in a competition that included five top 90-meter club athletes, even though he failed to reach the elusive 90-meter mark.

His next throws were three fouls, 85.10 m, and an 82.89 m final effort. With 87.88m, Weber came in second; Brazil's Luiz Mauricio da Silva placed third with 86.62m.

With a modest title win at an invitational event in South Africa, Chopra threw 84.52 meters to start his 2025 season. His performance has since picked up speed, making him one of the choices going into the World Championships later this year.
