Mirabai Chanu wins gold at Commonwealth Championship 2025 with a record-breaking performance
Digital Desk: Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist, won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Championships 2025 with a record-breaking performance in Ahmedabad on Monday, August 25.
Chanu, who returned to the international competition after missing a year due to an injury, won the 48 kg category with a total of 193 kg (84 kg + 109 kg).
She achieved new Commonwealth Championship records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total. The 31-year-old Manipur native appeared rusty at times and managed to lift only three of her six attempts.

The gold medal also assured her a straight qualification for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2026.
Over 300 lifters from 31 different countries compete in the championships, which are currently in their 30th edition. Chanu, who led India's 16-member senior squad in Ahmedabad, has won gold at the event in 2013, 2017, and 2019 and silver in 2015.
