POCSO case against ex-wrestling body chief Brij Bhushan, closed by Delhi court

Digital Desk: Former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Singh received tremendous relief on Monday when Delhi's Patiala House Court dropped a sexual harassment case filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

On June 15, 2023, the court approved the Delhi Police's cancelation report for the case. On August 1, 2023, the claimed victim and her father did not protest the police report in the case and indicated their pleasure with the inquiry.

The Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Singh in response to a sexual harassment allegation lodged by six wrestlers, but they also filed a cancellation report in connection with a minor case involving a POCSO.

The police urged that the case be canceled based on the statements of the minor complainant and her father under Section 173 CrPC. The court sent notice, and the minor and her father appeared in August 2023.

The court requested clarification and summoned the complaint to appear again. The order was finally issued on Monday, accepting the police closure report.

Brij Bhushan Singh was accused of sexual assault by several female wrestlers in 2023, who staged a weeks-long protest demanding an investigation.

Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, together with Olympic bronze medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, led the campaign against him.

Singh, on the other hand, accused the Congress of conspiring with the wrestlers to eliminate him from the campaign for the WFI presidential election.
