RCB victory parade stampede; Centre approves suspension of three IPS officers
Digital Desk: Bengaluru on June 4 witnessed a tragic stampede following RCB's victory Parade, after a long probe, three IPS officers, Dayananda, Vikas Kumar, and Shekhar, have been suspended by the central government concerning the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case, which resulted in the deaths of eleven people and multiple injuries.
The approval follows disciplinary action taken by the Karnataka government against the officers for failing to perform their duties in managing crowd control during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team's Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 victory celebrations.
"There was no accurate info, I was informed that only one person had passed away, even when I asked at 5:45 p.m. However, eleven people had already lost their lives by that point," The Chief Minister stated. "I could have ordered the cancellation of the RCB's celebration event in the Chhinaswamy stadium if the senior officials had provided me with accurate information sooner," he further added to his statement.
"The decision to suspend senior officials saddens me as well. However, did they not clearly fail? He asked.
The Karnataka government previously sent the suspension report to the Center. Following this the centre reinforced the state's action by expressing its approval to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) reports that to advance the disciplinary procedure, the state government has been instructed to file a charge sheet against the officers within 30 days.
