Assam: Rang Ghar waterlogged; IMD predicts cyclonic circulation over northeastern Assam

Digital Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department predicts mild to moderate rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, lightning, and gusts of 30-50 kmph. The continuous rainfall is attributed to cyclonic circulation in the lower troposphere.

Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation impact has affected Assam's Sivasagar district, where two days of drizzle since March 17 have inundated significant areas, including the foreyard of the famous Rang Ghar.

Locals are outraged by the inundation of the ASI-protected monument, which they fear will be lost. Diganta Tamuly, President of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Assam (TAYPA), blamed it on the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), claiming that the central agency is more concerned with generating cash than ensuring the monument's health.

Tourists who visited the monument on Monday said it was sad because the state government has showed a strong interest in developing Sivasagar an iconic city and a popular tourism destination.

The excessive rains have also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, particularly the NH-37 expansion project between Janjhi and Moran. Service roads on both sides of the large vehicular underpass at Khatkhati, Moran, and Demow Chariali have been flooded, affecting traffic and delaying building work.

With additional rain predicted in the coming days, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to be prepared for potential inconveniences.
