Congress raises question regarding absence of Manipur from Amit Shah's itinerary during his visit to Assam and Mizoram

Digital Desk: The Congress questioned Home Minister Amit Shah's three-day travel to Assam and Mizoram, citing Manipur's exclusion from the plan of action.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, stated, "The Assam chief minister has just announced that the Union home minister will make a three-day visit to Assam and Mizoram beginning March 14. But why isn't Manipur on his itinerary?"

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Shah would arrive in Jorhat late on March 14 for a three-day trip to Assam and Mizoram.

Sarma told reporters that shortly after landing in Jorhat, the home minister will go to Dergaon in Golaghat district and spend the night at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy.

In addition to condemning the Center for its handling of the issue in the ethnically divided northeastern state, the Congress has been blasting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not traveling to Manipur.

Modi's journey to Mauritius was criticized by the party on Tuesday, claiming that it was "frequent-flyer time" while Manipur residents awaited his arrival.

Since May 2023, ethnic conflict in strife-torn Manipur between the Meiteis, who live in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo, who live in the nearby highlands, has killed over 220 people and left others homeless.
