Govt Employee Nabbed In Soreng Drug Ops

Digital Desk: In a shocking twist of incidents, Soreng District Police, during their targeted operation near Chakung Gate, arrested a government employee in a major drug bust, recovering a large quantity of suspected contraband substances from him.

The operation began at 6:30 p.m. on July 6, when police stopped a Bolero taxi (Reg. No. SK02J/1340) on the Siliguri-Soreng route. The suspect identified as Binod Chettri, a Dodak resident and Lower Division Clerk (LDC) at the Block Administrative Centre (BAC) in Soreng, was arrested amid prior surveillance.

During their search, conducted in the presence of the Block Development Officer (BDO), officials discovered a dark brown cloth pouch containing 127 loose tablets, as well as a file of blue-colored Proximec Spas—a medicinal drug used for recreational purposes.

Police have filed a complaint under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

Locals who once greeted the officer with respect are now left grappling with disbelief. Officials said additional investigations are underway to discover the source of the narcotics. Authorities believe more arrests may follow.
