MoE Report: Meghalaya Ranks Low in School Education for the Year 2023-2024

Digital Desk: Meghalaya ranked as the lowest-performing state in the Ministry of Education's 2023-24 Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D), which assesses school education at the district level.

The findings have sparked concern among educators and policymakers, with calls for urgent reforms and increased investment in the state's schooling system to bridge the gap and improve education outcomes for students.

The annual index evaluates performance in six major categories including learning outcomes, infrastructure, digital learning, school safety, and governance, including a total weightage of 600 points, which is divided into 74 indicators.

The top performers in the latest survey are Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat, and Odisha. Other states and Union Territories that performed well include Kerala, Daman and Diu, Haryana, Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.

The PGI-D, launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), has so far published reports for the years 2017-18 to 2021-22, aiming to promote data-driven improvement in classroom education.
