Sikkim Assembly holds one day session; passed on key bills on education and governance

 

Digital Desk: Marking a major turnout in development, on June 30, the Sikkim Legislative Assembly finished a one-day session of the Eleventh Assembly's Second Session (Part IV), during which two key bills were proposed and passed with no opposition.

The legislative activity focused on educational reforms and anti-corruption tools, making it a productive day for the state government.

The Sikkim Assembly enacted the Scholars Institution of Skills and Creativity Bill, 2025, which aims to construct a new institution to boost the state's skill development and creativity.

Along with it, the Sikkim Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was passed, which revises the current system for probing corruption charges against public officials.

Furthermore, the Assembly presented the Annual Consolidated Audit Report on Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipalities for 2023-24, which assesses the financial health and performance of grassroots governing bodies.

In addition, annual reports from key agencies such as Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Civil Supplies, and the Sikkim Public Service Commission were submitted for evaluation.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang lauded the session's behavior as well as departmental and legislative coordination.
