TVK’s Vijay Prepares for Landmark Oath Ceremony; Rahul Gandhi to Join
Digital Desk: Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is scheduled to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today. This development follows extensive negotiations with various smaller parties, aimed at excluding the BJP and AIADMK from power in the state.
With this milestone, Vijay will be the first leader to head the Tamil Nadu government from outside the traditional DMK and AIADMK factions since 1967.
The formal meeting took place at Lok Bhavan with Tamil Nadu Governor RV Arlekar, who canceled his trip to Kerala to meet Vijay, thus concluding the uncertainty surrounding the formation of the new government. Earlier on the same day, TVK celebrated a significant victory, as party leader Aadhav Arjuna presented a letter of support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
Additionally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), an ally of the DMK, also pledged its support to TVK, enhancing their coalition's strength to 120 seats—surpassing the Tamil Nadu halfway mark of 118.
TVK independently secured 108 seats in the elections, making it the single-largest party. The swearing-in ceremony, taking place today in Chennai, will be attended by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a prominent Member of the Congress Party.
