Tribal panel continues boycott of Nagaland governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla
Digital Desk: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, was sworn in as Nagaland's 22nd Governor on August 25 at Raj Bhavan, following Governor La Ganesan's death.
The Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Ashutosh Kumar, administered the oath of office. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton, ministers, MLAs, senior officials, and dignitaries.
Following his swearing-in, Bhalla met with the state cabinet at Raj Bhavan and reviewed a ceremonial guard of honour. A reception followed, with political officials, church representatives, tribal entities, and civil society organizations greeting the new governor.
Members of the Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CORRP), which represents the Ao, Angami, Lotha, Rengma, and Sumi tribes, were noticeably absent. The group has pushed for revisions to the state's four-decade-old job reservation system.
Despite the government's recent announcement of a Reservation Review Commission, the committee rejected it, citing the need for tribe and civil society representation.
