Sikkim's Assembly session begins; key bills and financial proposals to be discussed
Digital Desk: The Sikkim Legislative Assembly began its second session (Part II) of the Eleventh Assembly on February 21 at 10 a.m., chaired by Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa. However, this session will include variety of legislative and financial issues.
Raju Basnet, Minister of Education, will submit crucial education-related bills, including the Mahatma Gandhi University Sikkim (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Sikkim Model Schools Bill, 2025.
The agenda also includes discussions of the Swastik University Sikkim Bill, 2025, the Trident University of Applied Sciences Sikkim Bill, 2025, and the Sri Venkateshwara University Bill, 2025.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who holds the Transport and Finance portfolios, will present the Sikkim Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Sikkim Public Demands Recovery (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for consideration.
He will also offer the First Supplementary Demands for Grants for Fiscal Year 2024-25.
The Sikkim Appropriation Bill 2025 will be introduced and debated at the First Supplementary Demands for Grants. The discussions will include major audit reports such as the Sikkim Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited's Separate Audit Report and the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on energy management.
The House will also consider the State Pollution Control Board's and Sikkim Public Service Commission's annual reports for 2022-23 and 2023-24, respectively. The session is anticipated to end with valedictory statements and votes of appreciation from the Chief Minister and other members.
