Assam: Amid searing heat, Kamrup Metro changes school hours from June 11
Digital Desk: Schools in the Kamrup Metro district will be operating under revised hours in response to the elevated temperatures and continuous heatwave.
All public, Provincial areas, and private schools in this region are bound by the District Commissioner's decision, which was taken in the interest of the general welfare.
This change will take effect on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025, and will remain in force until Monday, June 16th.
Lower Primary (L.P.) schools will now be open from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Middle Elementary (M.E.) schools from 7:30 AM to 12:00 noon, and Higher Secondary (H.S.) schools from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
The changes are part of an overall initiative to enhance the safety and comfort of students.
Schools in the Kamrup Metro area have been urged to hold morning assemblies indoors or in shaded areas to minimize extended sun exposure. Outdoor activities are restricted to keep students safe from the excessive temperatures.
Schools must schedule multiple water breaks during school hours and provide adequate drinking water facilities. Ventilation and cooling are also prioritized, with all fans turned on and classrooms thoroughly ventilated.
This proactive strategy attempts to minimize interruption while prioritizing the safety and well-being of Kamrup Metro district children and personnel.
