Assam: ONGC Successfully Capped Gas Well Blowout after 15 Days Of Emergency Ops

Digital Desk: After 15 tense days, there is finally a sign of relief in Assam's Lakwa region. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully capped the leaking gas well that had been spewing gas non-stop since the blowout began.

The blowout at well RDS 147A began on June 12 and was completed without any casualties, injuries, or fire challenges at 11:15 a.m. today bringing everything under control. The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri verified the successful capping operation, stating that the timeframe indicated the "shortest possible time" based on international best practices for such circumstances.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also applauded the "extraordinary levels of perseverance" demonstrated by Sivasagar citizens, particularly those living in the directly impacted districts, working closely with emergency response authorities throughout the crisis.

The ONGC used its sophisticated equipment and experience to overcome the uncontrolled gas leak and promised a detailed investigation to ensure safety measures.

After days of fear and uncertainty, this marks the beginning of healing for the affected community.
