Assam Police intense crackdown on Anti-Nationals; over 39 in custody for "defending Pakistan on Indian soil"

Digital Desk: Assam police have detained two more persons for "defending Pakistan on Indian soil," bringing the total number of arrests to 39 since last month's Pahalgam terror attack, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma also stated that the two were apprehended in the Hojai and South Salmara-Mankachar districts.

"#Update on Crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil... A total of 39 anti-nationals arrested so far," CM Sarma tweeted on Saturday night.

Previously, opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges after reportedly defending Pakistan and its role in the Pahalgam terror attack.

On Friday, Sarma vowed to break the legs of people who chanted 'Pakistan zindabad' in the aftermath of the Jammu and Kashmir terror incident.

Addressing a panchayat election campaign rally, he urged the audience to pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army so that Pakistani terrorists hiding in every nook and corner of the world might be found at any cost which will bring justice to the people who were killed in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
