Australian government lifts the travel advisory for Assam except for four districts: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Digital Desk: The Australian government's recommendation against coming to Assam has been lifted, but individuals are still advised not to visit four districts where the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) is in effect, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.

Australia has reviewed the travel limitations imposed on its residents for visiting the state and published amended guidelines allowing them to travel in all districts of Assam except Tinsukia, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Sibsagar," Sarma said at a press conference.

"Australian tourists can now visit all sections of the state, except where the AFSPA is in effect. The Australian High Commission has informed us that if AFSPA is removed from these four districts, the limitations will be lifted across the entire state," Sarma stated.

Due to the state's law and order crisis, Australia and Germany issued travel advisories to its nationals. "We hope that Germany will also lift the travel restrictions soon," CM remarked.
