Guwahati: Spiritual time! Ambubachi Mela kick starts today; Know about "Pravritti" and "Nivritti" rituals

 

Digital Desk: The Ambubachi Mela, a holy festival celebrated annually at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, officially begins today, June 22nd. 

Today at 2:56 PM, the temple doors will close in observance of "Pravritti," which marks the start of the Goddess Kamakhya's yearly menstrual cycle and represents fertility and the feminine ability to procreate.

During Pravritti, the temple is closed for three days when the Goddess Kamakhya begins her yearly menstrual cycle.

This phase comes to an end on Nivritti, when the temple reopens following a cleansing ritual.

Here are details regarding the Ambubachi mela:

Temple Closing time: The temple doors are to shut down at 2:56 PM today. 

 

Temple opening time: The temple will open again on June 26th after the "Nivritti" ritual is done.

 

Mela and Timing: This three-day festival will conclude on June 25th. 

Likewise, every year, lakhs of devotees are expected to visit during the mela. 

In addition, the temple will be shut down for three days so that Goddess Maa Kamakhya can rest completely.
