Midnight Raid: GST Evasion Probe Reaches Assam's Dhubri New Ghat Dump

Digital Desk: In a dramatic late-night operation, Assam's GST officials launched a surprise raid on Wednesday night at the New Ghat dump yard in Dhubri over suspicion of large-scale tax evasion.

The sites, reportedly owned by local businessman Marfat Ali, came under scrutiny for allegedly failing to comply with Goods and Services Tax (GST) regulations. The tax team spent hours searching through the location and seizing a substantial cache of papers.

This operation is part of a bigger, state-wide campaign launched by the Assam government to tighten tax compliance and reduce revenue losses. Recent operations in many districts have revealed significant tax avoidance actions among various businesses.

Authorities are currently investigating the seized documents to determine the entire value of the evaded tax. Legal action against the owner, Marfat Ali, is expected to follow based on the results.

Though officials are yet to reveal the actual scope of the suspected GST evasion, the size of the raid and the amount of material seized indicate significant financial discrepancies.
