Minister Ashok Singhal's remarks regarding "Bhaona" faces criticism from Guwahati Press Club

Digital Desk: The Guwahati Press Club substantially opposed Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal's remarks against the Bhaona event organized by journalists, calling them mournful and insulting to Assam's cultural heritage.

A delegation from the Guwahati Press Club met with Minister Singhal on Monday to extend an invitation to the impending Bhaona performance.

However, during the discussion, the minister reportedly questioned the Press Club's decision to conduct such an event, claiming that "Bhaona is not secular."

Meanwhile, the Journalist Association for Assam (JAFA) slammed the minister's statement as unacceptable.

In a statement to the media, JAFA's central committee, led by President Abhideep Choudhury, Executive President Pankaj Deka, and General Secretary Kunja Mohan Roy, demanded that Minister Singhal withdraw his remarks and apologize for what they called an insult to Assam and its cultural traditions.

JAFA further advised the minister to desist from making such statements in the future.

The Guwahati Press Club, which has invited individuals from all walks of life, including political and non-political organizations, to the event, has urged Minister Singhal to clarify his position and honor the treasured legacy of Srimanta Sankardeva's Bhaona tradition.
