ONGC blowout-hit families receive Rs 25,000 in aid from Assam Government
Digital Desk: Almost 350 people impacted by a blowout at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) crude oil well in Sivasagar district have received urgent cash assistance of Rs 25,000 each from the Assam government.
Since the incident started at well number RDS 147 on June 12th, gas leaks have persisted, necessitating immediate government action.
About 350 families are at the camp, and they are worried," said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. We'll figure out compensation later. We shall use the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to give the families Rs 25,000 each for urgent relief."
The government stated that additional compensation details would be handled once the leaking was halted. The affected families have been relocated to temporary camps and are receiving the necessary support.
Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri convened a meeting with top officials in Delhi to assess the situation, emphasizing the shared responsibilities of both state and central governments.
CM Sarma commented on his coordination with central authorities, adding, "I will have a video conference with him once I reach Guwahati. The alliance seeks to achieve a quick resolution to the problem."
In order to fix the gas discharge matter, the state government is considering providing more financial support as well as reviewing the Assam oil well location.
The ONGC has been swiftly managing the problem by deploying skilled staff to restrict the gas leak. Air pollution levels are below safe standards, and the Assam Pollution Control Board is actively monitoring the situation.
The blowout was caused by a logging perforation operation, which resulted in uncontrolled gas flow shortly after the puncture. Both local and national governments are working together to reduce the impact on impacted populations and fix technical issues at the oil well site, exhibiting a collaborative approach to crisis management.
